Brunico/ Riscone

Brunico – small, but inviting. In the main street you will find international fashion co-existing side by side with items of traditional clothing from the region. And it’s not only women who are attracted by the elegant shops with the latest in Italian fashion. When browsing into the shop windows of Brunico town or of the village in which you have spent your holidays, you might find exactly the craft work you were looking for.Brunico - Pusteria Valley
Around 1250 the bishop of Bressanone Bruno of Bullenstätten and Kirchberg gave the order to build a castle on the hill and laid herewith, the first stone of the town, which was mentioned in documents up to 1256.
Some famous artists were born in Brunico. One of these was the master of the Late Gothic, Michael Pacher. He created his arts in his house on the main road.
After a long day of walking or skiing there is nothing more pleasant or relaxing than a short shopping tour.
Riscone, a small village located on a hill above Brunico, the only large town in Puster Valley. The village’s name dates back to the legendary castle of Rischon.
This is the ideal place to fulfil memorable experiences in summer and in winter.
A paradise for walkers and for anybody who loves nature, a beautiful panoramic point with a splendid view of the Dolomites. In wintertime numerous skiistic villages offer modern lifts and 85 km of slopes. Brunico - Pusteria Valley

Campo Tures

Flat and vast cultivated plateaus, decorated by the Castello di Ritter castle, which towers proudly above the village and radiates a sense of safety. Steep forestry hills, and above all, the imposing white peaks of the Hochgall Mountain (3,435 metres). This is how Campo Tures, the main village of the Aurina di Tures Valley presents itself, which is also proud to be a “Market Community".
Riva is one of South Tyrol’s most elevated villages. It is an ideal starting point for the highest mountain paths. The three waterfalls of the Riva river (Reinbachfälle), which descend from colossal granite walls, are very famous. and the natural park of the Rieserferner Mountain Group is also famous.

Chienes

The villages Chienes, Casteldarne and San Sigismondo, are located where the Puster Valley begins to get wider, where the Rienza river flows quietly and where exquisite plateaus appear.
In the parish church of San Sigismondo, whose houses are scattered throughout the fields like dots on a carpet, a very particular treasure can be found: an altar from the Danube school, famous because it is one of the oldest and most beautiful in the whole of Tyrol.
Chienes is a friendly village located where the Verde river meets up with the Rienza river. The village is surrounded by wide fields, and above the village numerous farms are located on a sunny low mountain. Also part of Chienes is the romantic castle “Schöneck” hidden between high fir-trees.
Oswald von Wolkenstein, a poet, earl, knight and minnesinger, is said to have been born in the castle, which is today renovated and restored. Just as idyllic as the castle, is the little bathing-lake of Issengo at the centre of a mixed forest.
Throughout the seasons Chienes offers many possibilities: in summer time as a bathing area and in autumn it is ideal for excursions.
Casteldarne village was built surrounding the hill of its castle, on which the parish church is also located. At the parish church you can admire the miraculous image of the Holy Mary of the wheat and the castle of Earl Künigl.
This baroque castle is also known and appreciated for the amount of furniture inside it’s walls.
For miles you can walk through green pastures over low mountains and through a magnificent forest.
This really is a romantic landscape.

Falzes - Terento

Falzes and Terento are located at the start of the Puster Valley on a sunny plateau. The green mountain offers great panoramic excursions to valleys villages or – further away – to the unusual peaks of the Dolomites.
Thanks to the hilly landscape the villages are protected to the North by the high mountain crests, which hinder cold air from coming into the valley and the climate is therefore relatively mild. There is a reason why the road through the Puster Valley is called “Strada del Sole” meaning sunny road.
The villages are nowadays well maintained residential centres with typical southtyrolian houses.
Excursions and mountain climbing is particularly popular in this area, and Terento is the starting point for numerous tours. Also very impressive are the pyramids, which demonstrate the extraordinary power of water.
Right behind the pyramids, the mill’s path starts. It portrays the great capability of our ancestors to utilise the power of nature.
The corn mills still run today and give visitors an insight as to what hard work daily bread baking really was for the farmers in those times.
Something else that’s special in this area, is the Norway spruce with the shape of a column which has grown between Terento and Falzes. This is the only one of its kind in South Tyrol.

Falzes: 1022 m
Terento: 1210 m

Gais – Villa Ottone

Gais and Villa Ottone are both located on the banks of the Aurino River (Ahrnbach), surrounded by unspoilt forests in one of the most lateral valleys in South Tyrol.
Gais and Villa Ottone together with their mountain areas Riomolino and Montassilone at the exit of the Tures Valley towards Brunico keep the balance between old traditions and modern times.
All the expectations of those who are looking for relaxation, for sports and excursion opportunities and of course, of those nature lovers will be completely satisfied. The friendliness and hospitality of the people will certainly prove to be enough to convince anyone that spending their holidays in Gais was definitely the right choice to have made.
The parish church San Giovanni in Gais is one of the most beautiful expressions of roman art in Puster Valley.
In 1425 a special trustee used to live in the “Pflegerhaus” (House of the Trustee): Oswald von Wolkenstein and later on, during Second World War, another poet found refuge here – Ezra Pound.
The Kings of Saxony passed through here, Napoleon spent his holidays at the house and Hermann von Gilm composed his verses in this building.
In this area traditions and religion are closely interlinked with each other and the peoples patriotism is still expressed today.
At the feast of All Saints the “Pitschelesingers” wander around the village and the usual Sunday processions take place, and when the “Kirchtagsmichl” (Bank holiday Michel) hangs high upon a tree-trunk in Mulini village, then anything is possible! The whole village celebrates for three days and enjoys the music of various orchestras.

Perca

Perca, only 5 km from Brunico. The whole area is ideal for choosing one of the many excursions on offer. It is located in a quiet and sunny area between 950 m above sea level at the Rienza river up to 2500 m in the mountainous area (Natural Park of the Vedrette di Ries).
Perca is situated on a glacier mass of the Rienza dating back to the ice age. A mile stone outside the parish church gives evidence of the presence of the Romans.
Documents from 862 give evidence that the villages name dates back to the immigration of the ancient Bavarians when the original name was “Perchah” (mountain river or birch forest).

Anterselva - Pusteria Valley

Anterselva Valley

The romantic Anterselva Valley is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt valleys of South Tyrol and it is the ideal place for those who love nature and who are in search of peace and relaxation. The climate, the sunny location and particularly the beauties of the walking paths offer joy, tranquillity and relaxation throughout the seasons.
5 km from the beginning of the valley you will reach Anterselva di Sotto (1,135 m). After a light gradient you will reach Anterselva di Mezzo (1,250 m) and before reaching the picturesque Anterselva Lake (1,640 m) you will pass through Anterselva di Sopra (1,532 m).
The valleys background: intensive green forests above you on either side with impressive rock faces further up again – the deeply carved massive of the Vedrette di Ries, which culminates with the Collalto mountain (3,435 m).
The valley concludes with the Anterselva Lake, where you can take an particularly beautiful walk around the lake.
The possibilities of how to spend your holidays in winter time are infinite.
In particular, cross-country skiers know and admire the valley of the Biathlon championships. The valley offers more than 60 km of tracks. The cross-country skiing school will be delighted to teach you these wonderful sports.
Anterselva is only few kilometres from the Plan de Corones skiing carousel and at the entrance to Anterselva di Mezzo the “Riepenlift” ski lift is the ideal slope for families with children.

S. Lorenzo di Sebato

The landscape and surroundings are especially beautiful in the wide basin of the Brunico plain.
In San Lorenzo you will find wide fields, small hills and the romantic and wild river source of the Rienza river.
Rising from the Aurina valley the gigantic white peaks of the Tauri mountains stand out and the tight Gader Valley, the antechamber of the Dolomites, begins.
This delicate landscape is particulary well suited for walks and excursions.
Excursions for example to the near town of Brunico, to the place of pilgrimage Maria Saal at the edge of the forest, which was once a settlement. Another possibility is offered by the village of Stefansdorf, where you pass romantic hill chains and rustling forests with a great variety of plants.
In ancient times the “Reti” population lived in this village and they had already understood the strategic advantage of the villages position.
The Romans, the new masters of Sävaten, arrived in 15 B.C. and up to the 5th Century this remained the camp of “Sebatum”. A milestone, remains of civil constructions and many coins from that time still remain to this day as reminders of the settlement.
Throughout the course of Christianisation the settlement was consecrated to San Lorenzo – “Laurentius” and the name survived all of the misfortunes of the following centuries.
In the Middle Ages, the areas destiny laid, in good and in bad times, in the hands of the castles of San Michele and of Sonnenburg where the Earls of Pusteria and Lurn used to tarry. These were the courts where all of the main decisions for the Puster Valley were taken.
These days at the Sonnenburg castle, you can still find some remains of the Benedettini convent, founded by Vokold in 1083. A special jewel is in possession of the parish church: Mother Mary of the grapes on the throne with her child on the main altar, created by Michael Pacher in 1462.

Valdaora

Wide roaming meadows, walking paths through the middle of fields and a fantastic landscape. An artificial lake, the Furkel mountain pass (1737 m), the old language and a section of the village that borders on the ladin territory, Plan de Corones and the first Dolomites.
All of the aforementioned provide the reasons why Valdaora is such a special and a fantastic place for relaxing in winter and in summer time. Valdaora also has a lot to offer: hotels, restaurants and numerous opportunities for entertainment.
In summer time this is an ideal area for excursions thanks to the wonderful panorama of the Dolomites, the Rieserferner mountain group and the Ziller Valley. From here you have an excellent view of the Puster Valley and the Aurina Valley. The Geisel mountain also lies in the vicinity of Valdaora, and this affords you the ideal starting point for walks and excursions.
A long time ago, the Romans enjoyed living in this village and not much has changed since then. Valdaora can offer something for everyone: culture, nature and a lot of entertainment.

Aurina Valley

The Aurina Valley (Casere, Predoi, San Pietro, San Giacomo, Cadipietra, Rio Bianco, Lutago) spreads out at the foot of fourteen peaks of over three thousand metres of altitude, which stand in contrast to the valley, just like its inhabitants the “Tölderer”, the poor mountain farmers who used to live in these high surroundings for centuries. The Valley's isolated position has profoundly influenced its traditions and costumes and its dialect, which is the only one of its type in the whole of South Tyrol.
Manor houses can still be found in Predoi and Cadipietra. They were built by local merchants at the time.
This is a real paradise for alpinists and excursionists. Possible hiking destinations are the snow-white peaks of the Val die Ziller Alps "Zillertal” and of the Tauri Alps, the "Dreiherrenspitze" Mountain (3,499 m), the Rörspitze Mountain (3,495 m) and the “Waldner” Lake (2,338 m), which announces bad weather by roaring.

Casies Valley - Monguelfo - Tesido

The Casies Valley is easily reachable from Monguelfo in a Northerly direction. It is a side valley of the Puster Valley – about 18 km long, wide and sunny. The hillsides of the Casies Valley offer a splendid view of fir forests between the impressive peaks of the Vedrette di Ries and the Defregger mountain chain. Nature in this valley is still unspoilt, the air is pure and fresh, and you are guaranteed peace, quietness and relaxation. The valley begins with the picturesque villages of Colle (the lowest village), San Martino and Santa Maddalena. The last farms from this valley are located at 1,530 m above sea level. The community consists of approximately 2,000 inhabitants. The main income streams are tourism and agriculture, which have given the village the character it has today. This wide and quiet valley offers relaxation, tranquillity, a lot of nature, fresh air and – thanks to the busy, diligent farmers – an unspoilt environment and unstirred nature. There is no doubt about the specialness of the area of Monguelfo and Tesido. To the North there is the steep Ziller Valley, while the unusual Dolomite valleys appear to the South.
Monguelfo and Tesido are two well kept villages that are proud of there heritage and have a lot to offer to their visitors: a great culture, and splendid landscape and magnificent scenery.
