Summer sports in the Fassa Valley
WalkingDuring the summer period the Fassa Valley can offer you thousands of sports and entertainment: an infinite number of paths along or in the lateral valleys, many excursions opportunities on the mountains. These picturesque and suggestive walks of different difficulty levels, will lead you to the discovery of beautiful spots, to timeless spaces, where the landscape is still untouched and pure. Here you will easily forget the frantic of daily life and taste the feeling of being in perfect harmony with Nature. From Moena, the first town of the valley, to the opposite Penia, you will have the choice among paths in the woods, and nice walks through meadows and pastures, where you will be able to see some traces of the rural civilisation. Just along the valley or up to the top of the mountains, these paths will accompany you through a marvellous sight of the surrounding natural terrace. The ski-lifts will offer you a more comfortable way to reach the panoramic views from the "Alpe di Lusia", from "San Pellegrino" Pass, from "Ciampedìe", "Buffaure", "Col Rodella", "Belvedere" and "Ciampac", in the real heart of the Dolomites.
HikingFor more exacting hikes, the choice is up to you: climbing tracks, high level trekking, mountaineering. You will be given the possibility of emulating the most famous alpine guides, following the extraordinary steps of the local legend Tita Piaz, "The Devil of the Dolomites". Alpinist here finds its best expression and wall climbing is certainly a satisfactory experience for whoever decides to spend here his holidays. Of particular interest are also the ways leading to the front line of the First world War, whose terrible moments left deep signs in the entire valley. From the "Bocche" chain to the "Marmolada" you will remark the concrete traces of those years: trenches, wire entanglements, fortifications and communication trenches are the memory of a tragic past.
Cycling Excursions and climbing are not the sole possibilities for summer sport activities in the Fassa Valley. Cycling on the road or up on the Dolomite hairpin bends (usually included among the stages of the "Giro d'Italia") is an occasion to emulate the champions of the past times. The "Sella" and the "Pordoi Pass", are now equipped with a fixed precision-timing system from Canazei for people who love challenges. Furthermore the infinite variety of mountain-bike races, beginning with the splendid road of the Rampilonga in Moena, to continue with dozens of paths all around the valley or the emotion given by a fantastic paraglide flight after a launch from one of the most beautiful terraces of the valley. These are only some among the never ending proposals making the summer offer of the Fassa Valley one of the richest and various ones, together with the different sportive plants like the indoor Ice Skating rink in Alba, the town swimming-pool in Canazei and the new Wellness Centre "Eghes", the training climbing center, the tennis grounds, the lawn bowling green and the mini-golf.
RelaxFor relax lovers, a peaceful atmospheres will certainly be found on the rivers of an alpine lake, in the silent of woods, or simply fishing along a mountain river. They will also profit of some alpine refuges along their way to taste some typical local dishes. In fact, the gastronomic tradition of the Fassa Valley is a matter of proud and boast. You will have the possibility of choosing among different restaurants, whose capable chefs are particularly good at creating new and original compositions and dishes from the typical products of the local tradition.
